Job Posting FAQs

  • How do I create a job using a template?

Once the template is created, your job creators can find and use it by typing in the job's title when creating a new job, and selecting the template in the Use a Template section of the list.

Users are able to pull up a side bar to access and search for the full list of job templates and recent jobs that they would like to copy from when creating new jobs.  This can be done by either clicking on the “use template” button now available on the top right corner of the job title field, or with the “see more” button located at the bottom of the search dropdown.

  • How do I edit a job template?

After a saving a job as a job template, all edits and updates needed should be done directly on the job that was saved as a job template.

You can go to edit the job in a few places :

    1. Jobs list

    2. In the Jobs top barScreen Shot 2020-12-09 at 5.22.49 PM.png
    3. In the default job ad in the "Job Ad" tab.Screen Shot 2020-12-09 at 5.25.28 PM.png

After entering the job editing page, make all the edits needed on steps 1 through 3.

In Step 1: Edit, ensure that the "save this as a template" checkbox stays checked.

In Step 3: Hiring team, select "save" at the bottom of the page to save edits accordingly.

All changes done to the job will only be applied to newly created jobs.  Jobs that were created with the job template before updates were made will not see the changes being applied.

Similar to saving a job as a job template, only extended and administrators should be editing job ads.  If a standard or basic user has been added to the saved job as a hiring team member and makes edits, the job templates flag will automatically be removed and the job will no longer be visible as a job template.

  • How do I enable/disable the street address from my jobs' locations?

By default, SmartRecruiters will require a street-level address for your jobs so that candidates can see potential commute time, and view a Google Map of the job's location on the job ad.

Admins who'd prefer to include only the city can remove street-level addresses in the Job Location Precision page:JobLocationPrecision.png

Look for it in the Administration list in Settings / Admin.

  • How do I publish a saved job?

To locate your unpublished, saved jobs, click Jobs at the top of SmartRecruiters. From there you can use the filters or the Search bar to locate your job. Select the correct view from the "view jobs" section at the top to ensure you're displaying the jobs you'd like to see.

Once you've found your job, click "Publish" and follow the Job Posting wizard.

  • How do I republish a job to the free aggregators?

If you've already created a job ad, you can publish or republish it to the major job aggregators from the Edit Job wizard.

Be careful not to repost/republish your your jobs to the free aggregators too frequently. Aggregators may blacklist your jobs or bury them farther down the results if you republish jobs before the listing expires.

To republish an ad to the free aggregators, just edit the ad.

Jobs submitted through SmartRecruiters to the free job aggregators usually go live on the aggregators' feeds within 24 to 48 hours

  • How do I save a job as a template?

If you frequently post the same job in your SmartRecruiters account, create a template for the job rather than having to recreate the entire job ad. Once the template is created, your job creators can find and use it by typing in the job's title when creating a new job.

Only Extended or Admin users can create templates.

To create a template for a job, just select Save job as template on the Create step when creating a new job.

Alternatively, if you've already created a job, you can save it as a template on the Job Details tab:

  • How long are jobs live on the job boards?

In general, the majority of jobs submitted to job boards through SmartRecruiters are 30-day listings, especially for the free job aggregator boards. After this period ends, boards and aggregators will drop the job from their feed unless you republish the job.

Be careful not to repost/republish your your jobs to the free aggregators too frequently. Aggregators may blacklist your jobs or bury them farther down the results if you republish jobs before the listing expires.

Depending on the on the type of package you purchased through SmartRecruiters, your jobs' lifetime on a paid board may vary.

  • How long until my job is posted to the free aggregators?

Jobs submitted through SmartRecruiters to the free job aggregators usually go live on the aggregators' feeds within 24 to 48 hours

  • What happens when I copy a job?

On the first step of the Job Posting Wizard (Create), when you start typing into the Job Title field, SmartRecruiters shows you a list of similarly-titled jobs.

If you choose a job under the Copy the Job heading in the list, you'll simply copy the following information from the previous job ad to the new ad:

    • Company description
    • Job description
    • Qualifications
    • Additional information (but not the location),
    • Board Performance fields (Function, Industry, Type of employment, Experience level)
    • Scorecard data

Copying a job does not copy over selections for Custom Job Fields on the Details page or the scorecards assigned to the previous job.

  • What information is saved in a job template?

When you create a job template, it will save the following information and copy it into a job when selected:

    • The details of the job ad (on the Create page of the Posting Wizard), including job title, company description, qualifications, additional information, and anything that was added on the Create step, except for location and brand.
    • the Board Performance fields in the Details step, which are used by job boards to correctly classify your job ads.

Templates do not save selections for your job and org fields.

    • any Interview Scorecards that were added to the job that was saved as a template.

Is there any benefit to having an exact location vs. general location when it relates to job board posting. Do Job boards optimize better with zip code included?
It really depends on the job board. In most of the cases, the city address would be enough for the candidate to find the ad they are looking for, but some boards have more granular location pickers based on the postal code, suburb, distance from the center, etc. Considering such cases, it might be helpful to be as specific as possible.

In the context of several job ads, the default job ad cannot be unpublished - is this working as designed?
Yes - working as designedFrom a technical perspective, many places in the application rely on the default job ad and are not aware of the existence of the additionally created job ads. Therefore, it is not possible to have an unpublished default job ad + additional public job ad(s) for a job.

Can you republish jobs to job boards automatically after a certain period of time?
It is not possible to schedule an auto-republish for the jobs. So if the ‘job boards’ mentioned here are the ‘job aggregators,’ then there is no automated way. If we are talking about the job board offers (SmartDistribute), it is possible to schedule the first-time job postings based on the # of applicants in a given time via Automated Job Distribution.
